St. Joseph used two big innings and scored the final 16 runs of the game to cruise to a 17-6 7-inning win over Chillicothe at Shaffer Park Thursday. Chillicothe led 6-1 going into the top of the fourth, but the Mustangs got to Mudcat starter Bailey Quint and roughed him up for seven runs in the inning. The Mustangs weren’t done though, and added eight more in the seventh, most of which were aided by two Mudcat errors, to enact the 10-run rule. Every hitter that finished the game in the lineup for St. Joseph registered at least one hit. Noah Bodenhausen racked up four hits in the contest.
Chillicothe didn’t have a hit past the third inning, despite getting to Mustang starter Garon Johnson early with two home runs in the first inning from Justin Sanchez and Elian Guzman. The two clubs had a scuffle in their first matchup of the season, and some of that bad blood carried over into Thursday’s game. Three Mustangs were ejected in the game, including manager Johnny Coy. The last-place Mudcats fall to 3-7 on the season with the loss. The Mudcats hit the road Friday to travel to the MINK’s South Division-leading Clarinda A’s. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
