MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND SENIOR SERVICES ALERTS RESIDENTS ABOUT TICKS. Tick exposure can occur year-round, but ticks are most active during warmer months (April-September). The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services says before You Go Outdoors:
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and tuck your pants into your socks.
- Wear light-colored clothing so ticks can be easily spotted.
- Apply bug spray containing 20 percent DEET to your skin, particularly the base of your pant legs or ends of sleeves. Follow the label instructions carefully.
- Frequently check your skin for ticks.
