On Friday, the Grand River Welding Institute in Brookfield held their second annual welding competition for high school juniors and seniors from Missouri, Iowa and Illinois. 154 students registered for the competition. The first place winner of a $26,000 scholarship was Zach Tiffany from Pike Lincoln Tech. The second place winner of a $13,500 scholarship went to Ronnie Settles of Clinton, MO, and a third place $6,700 scholarship went to Sam Coleman of NCCC in Bethany, MO. All competitors received a $2,000 scholarship to GRWI for a total of $354,200 in scholarships given for the day. The founder of GRWI, Eric Adams, said it was a great day for Brookfield and for GRWI and we will be planning for next year’s competition to be even bigger.
