This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Missouri. According to the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, at 10 a.m. today, many cities across the state are scheduled to participate in the statewide tornado drill. The U.S. National Weather Service radios are set to receive the Routine Weekly Tests that will alert listeners that the drill has begun. Outdoor warning sirens are scheduled to also sound in participating communities. At that time, participants should practice taking cover in their designated shelter. Officials say it is important to have multiple ways to get severe weather alerts, especially overnight in case one fails or conditions in your area change. Remember that outdoor sirens are designed to only alert people who are outside. For more information go to stormaware.mo.gov.
