Kirksville man arrested on several charges relating to domestic violence

Christopher Scott Peterson, 28, of Kirksville, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution and three counts of third-degree domestic assault. KTVO television of Kirksville reports the incident was brought to the attention of Kirksville police Friday when the woman sought treatment at the emergency room at Northeast Regional Medical Center. According to court documents, the woman told officers that earlier in the week she and Peterson had gotten into a verbal argument that became physical. She said Peterson punched her in the jaw with a closed fist and head butted her. The woman told police the suspect later smacked her in the face because she woke up in pain and was crying. Peterson reportedly told her she was being too loud. The alleged victim also said Peterson held her hostage and would not let her leave, saying that he pushed her and told her she wasn’t going to leave. She said he then blocked the door by sitting in front of it. The suspect is being held without bond in the Adair County jail. Police said in court documents that Peterson violated the conditions of his bond from a November 2021 domestic assault case involving the same woman. Peterson was to have no contact with the woman, and he was supposed to be under house arrest. In the previous case, Peterson is accused of threatening to harm the woman with an ax.
