There are new details about last week’s police standoff in Kirksville. The woman accused of harboring a fugitive has now been formally charged. Tasha McKim, 35, of Kirksville, faces a charge of hindering prosecution. Police say she was providing shelter and assistance to a wanted fugitive, Austin Triplet, 25, of Kirksville. According to court documents, McKim had told officers in mid-December 2021 that Triplet was not staying at her home in the 400 block of West Cottonwood Street. Police obtained further information that Triplet was staying with McKim, and investigators obtained a search warrant. They went to McKim’s home last Thursday. She came to the door, and police took her out of the house. Police say she first denied that Triplet was in the home before eventually admitting that he was. After approximately an hourlong standoff, officers eventually went inside and found Triplet hiding in the attic, removed him and arrested him. He was wanted on multiple warrants for drug and weapons charges. Triplet is a convicted felon who is disqualified from owning firearms.
Police say McKim knew that, but she had continued to harbor him anyway.
