Adair County Sheriff’s office makes arrest after incident in Novinger

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office says a suspect high on methamphetamine broke into a Novinger residence because he thought his son was being raped inside the house. The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday Jan. 26th. A sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene for a report of a burglary in progress at a home in the 300 block of Rombauer Ave. The homeowner was holding the suspect at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. KTVO television in Kirksville reports that suspect was Dakota Jacques, 32, of Novinger. He is now charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree property damage and peace disturbance. Investigators said Jacques kicked in the home’s front door, waking up the homeowner, his wife and their children by yelling and screaming obscenities. The victims told the investigating deputy that Jacques had never been in their house, and they had not talked to him for several years. Law enforcement said the suspect is a threat to the community because of his admitted chronic methamphetamine use and irrational actions and statements. Jacques is being held without bond in Adair County jail.
