Northeast Missouri woman arrested for domestic assault

A northeast Missouri domestic assault incident involving a shovel, a handgun and a flying flashlight landed a woman in jail. It happened late Sunday night at a home east of Kirksville on Highway 11. The suspect is identified as Susan Weaver, 33, of Fayette, Missouri, who had been staying at the victim’s home for a few days. Weaver is now charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and fourth-degree assault. According to court documents, Weaver is the one who called 911 and reported the man had struck her in the head with a handgun. When law enforcement arrived at the home, they said Weaver was outside, cussing and yelling at them. The man came out of the home and cooperated with officers. He told them Weaver became violent after consuming a large amount of whiskey. The man said the woman threw a flashlight at him and came after him with a shovel. He showed officers video surveillance footage of Weaver running toward him with the shovel and swinging it at him. The man said he got his handgun to try and protect himself against her attack. He told investigators he did not fire it or threaten to shoot Weaver. He said she ran into the butt of the gun when he held it out to defend himself. Investigators said they observed no visible injuries on Weaver. While law enforcement was there, they said Weaver started busting the windows out of her vehicle. She then called 911 again and told the dispatcher she was being attacked by the officers, which was not true. The woman refused to talk to officers to tell her side of the story. While arresting Weaver, authorities said she started kicking at them, attempted to pull away and even tried to head-butt them. Investigators said when taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation to get clearance for confinement, Weaver spit in a deputy’s face. Once they got her to the Adair County Law Enforcement Center, they say the suspect attempted to strike officers and eventually had to be placed in a restraint chair. They were unable to administer a breath test due to Weaver’s violent behavior. She is being held without bond in the Adair County jail.
